Change IP Address

 

It is recommended that you print this page so you can more easily follow these instructions.

After you print this page, there is a place below to write your IP address information.

 

 

1.  Click the Start button, at the lower left of your screen.

 

 

2.  Click the Control Panel choice.

 

 

 

Click View network status and tasks.

 

 

 

Click View status.

 

 

 

Click the Properties button.

 

Click the Continue button.

 

 

 

1.  Click once on the line “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” to highlight it.

2.  Click the Properties button.

 

 

 

Automatic IP Address:

    (If you computer should have a static address, scroll down.)

 

 

If your computer should be getting it’s IP settings automatically, insure the above two settings are set. 

Click the OK button on this and the previous window.

 

Close all windows, wait 30 seconds, and try your Internet connection again.

 

If your computer should have a static IP address, continue to the following instructions:

 

 

 

Static IP Address:

 

 

Click the button “Use the following IP address” and

insure the “Use the following DNS server address” is selected.

 

Click once in the left part of the IP address field.

 

1.  Enter the first part of the IP address (10) and press the period key, to move to the next part of the IP address. 

           Enter the second part of the IP address (11) and press the period again to move to the third part. 

           Enter the third part of the address (12) and press the period key to move to the last part, and enter (13)

                     The above numbers are examples only!  Your IP address will be different.

 

Write the address numbers, given you by the SkyBeam tech support, here:

 

                        IP Address:           _____ . _____ . _____ . _____

Subnet mask:       _____ . _____ . _____ . _____

                        Default gateway:  _____ . _____ . _____ . _____

 

Preferred DNS server:  _____ . _____ . _____ . _____

 

 

 

When done entering the IP address, press the “Tab” key on your keyboard to jump to the Subnet mask. 

        (This should auto-fill the Subnet mask field.) 

 

2.  If Subnet mask is not the correct number, given to you by the SkyBeam’s tech support,

       simply enter the correct numbers.  (Press the Tab key again to jump to the Default Gateway.)

 

3.  Enter the Default Gateway number, then press the Tab key twice, to jump to the Preferred DNS server.

 

4.  Enter the Preferred DNS server number.

        (Unless advised otherwise, leave the Alternate DNS server blank.)

5.  Double-check all the numbers, then click the OK button.

 

OK out of all previous windows.  Wait 30 seconds, open your web browser, and try your Internet connection.
