Welcome to the Redding Area Corvette Enthusiasts. Northern California's premier Corvette club.
In the summer of 97, about 12 couples in another Redding Corvette Club felt the club was moving
away from cars in general and especially the history and the great legacy of all vetts, new and old.
They (we) wanted a club that could get back to the roots of the corvette and form a club that enjoyed
all models of Vetts and a "low pressure" membership that let people do their own thing but always staying
focused on all models of corvettes and just good old "car" people.
The first meeting started in September of 97 with meets held at the "Wild Heifer" restaurant.
Suzanne Westen was president for that year and most of 98. She and Jerry moved to Oregon and Jim
Hawkins, then VP, filled out that year and two more. Clint Smith was pres 2001-2002, Alan Googin
was pres. 2002 through 2005. Dave Walker took over in 2006.
Through the efforts of Jim Hawkins, the Club was officially incorporated and gained it's "tax free,
non-profit" status in July of 98. The Club continued to grow as many people heard about us and enjoyed
what they experienced. Meeting places, in general, went from the Wild Heifer, than "Lulu's in Redding,
then City Grill, Anderson, Ruby Tuesdays, Redding, Perco's, Anderson now "Fat Boy's Redding.
Currently, 05/06, the Club (R.A.C.E. an acronym for "Redding Area Corvette Enthusiasts", thanks to Jay
Johnson a member in 98 to 00) has grown to about 24 cars/members/couples/singles. Attendance has stayed
very steady with many interesting activities that include car shows, weekend tours (usually includes a car show)
evening get-togethers and several fantastic parties at members homes. There are Vetts from 57 through 06 currently
active in the Club and all cars are driven and participate in various activities and events.
